I won!!!! I am now a iMama.tv Modern Parent!!!

Well I have gone and won a fantastic Competition with iMama.tv, i am so excited!!!

I started blogging in July and around the same time I came across a competition with iMama.tv to become a vlogger     ( Video Blogger ) and become one of their modern Parents! How exciting is that !!

I thought, what an opportunity! When I started blogging I knew I was to take it seriously but obviously in a fun way!  I knew that if I did become a modern parent on iMama.tv it would be the start of exciting opportunities for myself and my family!  I really didn't think I would get it as there are so many fastastic bloggers out there!

To enter I had to make a vlog introducing myself and my family, I had never seen myself on video other than a moving bump when pregnant! I only had a blackberry that had video option, its was quite ridiculous actually I had to get the position the phone  right and stick the phone in a baby cup to point it at myself! It was quite difficult and had a few take's.  I had either my head not in the picture as the phone had slipped without me noticing or one of my children had started shouting me! On my first vblog i was feeding my son (this was about take 3 by then) and he did a huge burp as i sat down but just laughed and carried on, not sure what iMama.tv thought had happened :)

There was also another Brilliant Mummy Vlogger that was posting and thought there is no way I will win as she is Fantastic!!  What was lovely though is that Coralie Rose supported my vlogs and myself the same with Coralie!

Yesterday there was an announcement on facebook and twitter, this is the facebook announcement

  *drum roll*

The response to our vloggers and bloggers competition has been amazing and

we are very excited to announce that the winners of our vlogging competition

who will have their own Modern Parents channel on imama are Coralie Rose

Humf and the Fluffy Thing Review- Out today!!!

We were recently asked to review this wonderful DVD called Humf and the Fluffy Thing!!  The series is on Nick Jr and is aimed at Preschool children!

Humf is a Furry Thing, Short and round, Purple and Cuddly.  He is 3 years old who loves to explore the new things he sees around him and he is full of the wonders of the world! Just like a 3 year old Child.   The other Characters are Humf's Mum and Dad who again like Parents they allow Humf a lot of space to explore and discover the world around him, but they are always there to make him feel safe when he needs reassurance. , Uncle Hairy lives nearby and when he comes to visit he almost always brings Humf a present of some kind - often something he might like to play with himself., Loon a feathery big bird thing and Wallace is a hairy bullish thing and they are Humf's best friends!

Annabelle loved watching it, She is almost 2. 5 years old, my 4 year old Brother loved it too, even borrowed the dvd to take home to watch again.  The characters have a very English voice which is very soft and the words are pronounced very clearly, I love that as it teaches Annabelle and Callum how to pronounce words early (pet hate) !!  You may recognise the narrator's voice who is Caroline Quentin who fits perfectly with the Character's Voices!

The storylines will relate to our children, I love the the Characters and setting is set colours so easy on the eye, Not too much talking so the children can take in the sentences!  The fact that there is set Charcters who you get to know!

Humf and the Fluffy thing is great for anytime of the day,  10 little stories are approximately 7 minutes and is great for Calming Children down.  Also there is a bonus dvd with 6 stories! How fab!!  So this will be in the Dvd player ready :)

Humf and the Fluffy thing is available from TODAY September 12th at the RRP on £9.99 from Entertainment One!

The kind - Hearted Blogger Pledge

I came across Lindy Loves Blog last night and she posted about a blogger pledge called ' The Kind- Hearted Blogger Pledge and I thought fantastic.  I did a little bit of googling and found out the pledge started in 2010 by a Blogger from Hawaii called Jo, em, Jay & me ! She had personally experiencing not so nice behaviour in the blogging community!
I haven't actually experienced what I call internet bullying but I recently seen it and was disgusted! I do not have time for people in real life neither in the blogging community which bully!  We teach children bullying is wrong, why do adults do it, we are the role models, no wonder this world is like it is!!!

AS A KIND-HEARTED BLOGGER I PLEDGE TO:

  • Create, inspire, and admire rather than compete with fellow bloggers
  • Be understanding of each other-- in the blogging community, as well as in the world
  • Stay away from internet/blogging bullying
  • Speak my opinion freely, while still being mindful of other's feelings-- be tactful.
  • Make an effort--no matter how big or small the gesture, to spread kindness or joy to others
  • Acknowledge that I will make mistakes, (I am only human) but remember to learn from them
  • Know that at times I will post about the negative stuff in life, and maybe even some complaining (I am only human) but I will always follow up with something happy/positive too.
  • Believe that this world is a good place, filled with good people.
╔══╗
╚╗╔╝
╔╝(¯`v´¯)
╚══`.¸.Kind hearted bloggers!! :)

I also will be putting my pledge on show on my blog at all times! As I am proud to be A KIND HEARTED BLOGGER!!

Halos N Horns Little Book of Holiday Fun Review & Competition!!!!

I have recently come across Halos N Horns Little Book of Holiday Fun and it has made me think about what I used to do at work with the children I looked after at nursery compared to what I do with my own children.  I have not done as much as I could especially with Annabelle i think its down to the fact parenting is very much more complicated than looking after other parents children.
View The Littl...jpg in slide show
Halos N Horns Holiday fun survey was very interesting, 75% of mums say they prefer to spend the holidays playing with their children whilst 60% plan their fun activities before they go ahead and 68% of mums its doing something spontaneous which is the best fun of all!! Do you find that??  I do, i have found if I start cleaning the kitchen, Annabelle walks in looking for food, not because she is hungry because she is bored! So we get out the paints, crayons, gloop(cornflour and water) or waterplay!  We have a great time and Annabelle happily plays until she has had enough!!
To help all us parents stay playful and childlike Halos N Horns have updated The Little Book of Holiday Fun which contains some lovely playful games and activities to keep your little ones entertained! Also there are tips on surviving car journeys, family picnics and inspirational ideas for raining days!! We need them don't we?
Halos N Horns asked mums what their toddlers enjoy doing most, the top 2 activities are playing with water and anything messy, the least favourite was family picnics and building sandcastles, this survey shows that Children's favourite activities can be carried out at home!!
Even though children are going back to school and other childcare settings, there is still weekends and late afternoons to spend quality time playing together as that what is so special, memories last forever!  Watching and Listening to my dad play with my children teaches me a lot, he always says 'you are so lucky and make the most of them' My sister and I are adults now and he couldn't see us grown up as much as he could as I was 6 years old when my parents divorced, as he has had life experience of looking after young children he knows time really does fly, gosh i've gone very deep :) So I am going to do more with my children and watch them have fun and enjoy their childhood!
Anyway what I am trying to say is even though the book says its for holidays, its not its for special moments you have with your children anytime of the week or weekend!!

Halos N Horns have kindly offers 5 of my followers the chance to win....  Halos N Horns Little Book of Holiday Fun and also a Zingy Orange Hair and Body wash each!!!

Mother's Instinct Premier Baby and Toddler Show is on this Sunday !!!! FREE ENTRY!!

A fantastic Baby and Toddler Show is coming to Manchester this coming Sunday, September the 11th 12pm-5pm at The Waterside Hotel in Didsbury!!!
Mothers Instinct is a 'unique show bringing quality businesses from the Wirral, Cheshire and Merseyside areas together from the Pregnancy, Baby and Toddler markets.  The Idea is to offer a unique and exciting shopping experience, expert information, advice and entertainment and deliver a great family day out!!'
RDA Events which is the name of business, look to add value to the visitor experience by offering FREE ENTRY which is fantastic as this is very unusual for Baby Shows, plus it means you can spend more on yourself or your baby!!!
The organiser of the event is a a Mummy called Anna Stocks who has achieved so much is the last 4 years! Anna had two young children, was working part time in retail but really wanted to be the one pick up her boys from school and not be made to feel bad for looking after her children when they are poorly!   Anna decided it was time to start her own business that she was passionate about and most of all have her identity back as we all feel and say ' i'm not just a mummy'
Anna had, an idea, no money to put in a business, an old laptop and a degree in marketing.  She started writing her business plan which was to use her own attributes and start an events company.  Unfortunately friends and family were not supportive which did hurt Anna's feeling but gave her the strength to make it work.
Anna decided on the name RDA and choose to organise baby shows which is where the name 'Mothers Instinct' was born!  Anna decided to Organise baby events because she felt that there was huge baby shows in the cities which becomes very expensive, for travel, parking and tickets that she thought a safe luxuriuos hotel on the outskirts would be lovely for families, especially Mums suffering from Postnatal Depression where there is somewhere to view products without the hustle and bustle of a busy city centre!
'Attending the Mothers Instinct is not just a baby show, but somewhere that you go and be inspired by mums in business'
I am defiantly attending this Sunday, I have seen the photos of the previous show and looks amazing and very welcoming!  I think it's amazing that it is Free!! I am also looking forward to meeting exhibitors and looking at all the products and buying some goodies of course :)

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO PRINT OFF A VOUCHER THAT WILL ENTITLE YOU TO A FREE GOODY BAG PLEASE EMAIL ME AT victoria2322@hotmail.co.uk, in the subject box put 'Mother's Instinct' :)

'Baby's First Year' Book by Shanta Everington and Competition

View 51ts61nd1...jpg in slide show
I was very lucky to be able to Review this lovely book 'Baby's First Year' by Shanta Everington.  The book is a parent's guide with lots of helpful information!!!

When I was pregnant with my First baby Annabelle, I was obsessed with reading books on pregnancy but I did forget that It would be a great Idea to read about my baby to be's first year.  I suppose when you are pregnant for the first time you are so wrapped up in 'pregnancy' you forget! Well i did!!

When Annabelle was born, I think I was in a state of happy shock!  I was a nursery nurse prior so I had the confidence to look after her but had I ever looked after a newborn, no!!!  I was given a book for first time parents but the information was to much to take in, and one sided!!

Since being a mum for 2 years I have realised that one solution for one parent and baby could be different from another parent and baby, it's all about trial and error!

This book is fantastic, it has all the information you need but just enough to read, not overwhelming at all!  I love the fact Shanta's book never preaches and is always reassuring and gives helpful advice, this book is not an instruction manual!  Shanta offers the vital information so you as a parent, mum or dad can relax and enjoy time with your baby not worrying over doing it the correct way!

I love that there are family case studies included in every chapter as well as extracts from the author's own diary, this is coming from a real mum who has experienced what new parents go through themselves!

I love Shanta's statement ' Only you can decide what sort of parent you want to be, but it helps if you know what you are letting yourself in for' :)

  Getting to know the Author
View Me.jpg in slide show

I have asked the Author some questions!! Fantastic answers and I think its great to find out more about the author of a book, personally I have more faith in the book I am reading!!

1.  What make you decide to write this book? When my son was born five years ago, like most new parents, I didn't know what the hell I was supposed to be doing. I read a lot of parenting books but none of them really spoke to me. I found most guides too prescriptive, instructing parents how to raise their kids without acknowledging that parenting choices are individual and dependent on value systems, culture, personal beliefs and so on.

A few years on, I wanted to write the kind of parenting books that I would have liked to read in the early years and that's what inspired me to write Baby's First Year: A Parent's Guide and my other Need2Know parenting book, The Terrible Twos: A Parent's Guide. My aim with the books is to reassure and encourage parents to trust their own judgment. The books are a collection of ideas and contain case studies from a range of families sharing different experiences. The baby book also includes extracts from my own diary. I originally trained as an early years teacher and have been involved with various parenting charities including Home-Start and the NCT, so the books draw on that experience too.

 2.  What's your favourite part of the book?

The family case studies are by far my favourite bit of the book. It was so enjoyable talking to different parents and hearing all about their ups and downs and their different ways round things. Experiencing breastfeeding problems or teething trauma? Got a baby who refuses to wean? Cries all day? Want some ideas for play times? Read these case studies and you'll feel so much better!

3. What's your inspiration or who is?

My son of course! And all of life's rich tapestry of experiences. (Clich
éd but true!)

4.  Did you ever think you would become an author?

Becoming a published author wasn't really a childhood ambition, although I'd say I've always been creative and my younger sister and I used to create our own comics when we were kids! My yearning to be published crept up on me in my twenties. It took a long time though - my first published piece was a poem when I was 33! I've published quite a lot of different stuff since then including more poetry, short stories, novels, articles and, of course, parenting books. I find writing hugely rewarding.

5.  How have your personal experiences affected your writing?

My personal experiences always manage to find their way into my writing somehow. In my fiction work, my characters are often composites of my own traits and aspects of other people I've known, all rolled together with a huge dollop of imagination. My first novel, Marilyn and Me, was narrated by a young woman with a learning disability who models herself on Marilyn Monroe. I worked in community care for quite a few years in the nineties, and the book, although purely a work of fiction, came out of some of the things that haunted me from that time. The inspiration for my parenting books came from my own personal experiences. I write about things I care deeply about; that's what drives me.

6.  How did you get started as a writer?

As I mentioned above, my first published piece was actually a poem, and my second, a novel. I decided I wanted to write a novel about ten years ago. I completed a 100,000 word 'chicklit' novel but it wasn't to be. In 2003, I enrolled on an online MA Creative Writing at Manchester Metropolitan University and graduated in 2006 with a distinction. I found my writer's voice on the course, and the novel I developed during my studies, Marilyn and Me, was published by Cinnamon Press in 2007. The non-fiction writing came later, when I developed an unhealthy obsession with parenting books! I've also written publications for a range of charities, including parenting charities.

7.  What's the best advice you would give a mummy to be?

Well, I'd quite like to quote from Dawn Evans, one of the lovely mummies who featured in Baby's First Year: A Parent's Guide, who said,

"Trust your instincts, trust your baby and trust your love. Oh and, sometimes you’re allowed to be tired and snappy, but if it’s everyday don’t be afraid to ask for help." You can't beat that advice!

8.  Have you another book in the pipeline? There isn't a third parenting book in the pipeline at the moment, although at some stage, I'd quite like to write something about raising vegetarian children. At the moment, I am working on a young adult novel trilogy. You can find out more about my writing at www.shantaeverington.co.uk.
